main goals of the projectscientific objectives

The FRUITGRADING technology combines magnetic induction spectroscopy and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy to measure the internal properties of fruit which determine its taste.

The FRUITGRADING technology is:

  • To investigate the use of innovative characterisation technologies for assessing the internal quality of fruits, and its applicability to fruit sorting process.
  • To further the knowledge of the electrical and optical properties of fruits
  • To establish correlation models between the electrical and optical properties of fruits, and traditional physico-chemical characteristics related to internal fruit quality
  • To develop new quality criteria based on the possibilities offered by new characterisation methods, compliant with the expectations of European consumers
